Dow Rises 1,000 Points on Trump’s Iran Remarks; Nvidia Recovers (Live)
Market Gains and Uncertainties
Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average and other major stock indexes experienced a significant surge ahead of Monday’s market open. This movement came as President Donald Trump announced productive peace talks with Iran, sparking optimism in the financial markets.
Nvidia (NVDA) was one of the early winners in the stock market on Monday, showing signs of recovery from recent losses. The company’s stock was looking to bounce back after a period of decline.
Before the market opened, Dow Jones futures saw an impressive increase of 2.2%, or 1,000 points. Similarly, S&P 500 futures rebounded by 2%. Tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 futures also jumped by 2% during early morning trading. These gains reflected a positive sentiment among investors.
The 10-year Treasury yield dropped to 4.36%, while U.S. oil prices fell below $89 per barrel. Additionally, bitcoin moved up to around $70,800, indicating a shift in investor interest towards digital assets.
Among exchange-traded funds, the Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) gained 2.1%, and the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) increased by 1.9% ahead of Monday’s market open. These movements highlighted the broader market’s positive outlook.
Trump’s Comments and Market Reaction
Stocks received a boost after Trump stated that the U.S. and Iran were holding “productive” talks, according to various news sources. He also mentioned that he would delay any attacks on Iranian energy sites for five days. However, Iran denied any such discussions were taking place, accusing Trump of trying to buy time while energy prices stabilized and he planned his military actions.
This denial slightly reduced some of the major indexes’ gains. However, when Trump told Fox Business that he wasn’t sure what Iran media was referring to, stocks surged higher again, showing the market’s sensitivity to political developments.
Key Players in the Dow Jones Industrials
Inside the Dow Jones industrials, Amazon (AMZN) and JPMorgan Chase (JPM) showed strong performance, with both stocks rallying nearly 2% and almost 3%, respectively, in early morning trading. These gains indicated investor confidence in these major companies.
On the other hand, Chevron (CVX) was the only decliner ahead of the market open, dropping 1.4%. The stock faced pressure as oil prices tumbled, threatening to end its five-day winning streak.
Additional Market Insights
At 8:10 a.m. ET, President Trump made a statement on Truth Social, announcing that he would postpone “Any And All Military Strikes Against Iranian Power Plants And Energy Infrastructure For A Five Day Period,” citing “Productive Talks.” This comment came after he had previously threatened to “obliterate” Iran’s power plants if Tehran did not “FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 hours.”
Despite these statements, the market’s reaction was mixed. Iran’s foreign ministry denied any talks with Washington, which led to some uncertainty in the market. However, the overall trend remained positive as investors reacted to the evolving geopolitical landscape.
Other Market Movements
Nvidia, which had been struggling in recent days, rebounded by 2.9% on Monday morning, showing signs of recovery. The stock was on track to break a four-day losing streak. However, it had previously fallen below its long-term 200-day moving average.
Tesla shares moved up by 1.5% in premarket trading on Monday, aiming to recover from Friday’s 3.2% decline. However, the stock fluctuated and was flat in recent trades. It closed at its lowest level since September 10.
